SP #5

In this section of my senior paper reading, i read about the brain and it’s different parts that relate to empathy, feelings, and interactions with other human beings. The hypothalamus controls basic feelings and drives. If a person did not have a hypothalamus, they would have no meaning to life. They would so no emotion and would not feel the need to do anything. In relation to emotional intelligence, a person needs to know how they are feeling and control their feelings in order to accommodate another person. The hypothalamus is crucial for being able to control your feelings, and the ability to have emotional intelligence would disappear. The other part of the brain that helps control attention and what you focus on is called your reticular activating system. This helps decide what you pay attention to and your general alertness. It controls your state of consciousness and affects what activities you take part in and what conversations you have. This section of the brain is needed to be emotionally and socially intelligent because you need to be able to focus on a person in order to show that you actually care and are focused on them. With out it, there would be a disconnect when interacting with other people. This part of the treading was really interesting because it explained the specific parts of their brain and the actions that relate to them.
